Body composition analysis in chronically ventilated patients: an additional tool for weaning prediction
Chronically ventilated patients have nutritional modifications during their hospital stay. These parameters may influence the weaning from the ventilator process. Bio impedance technique could assess in a repetitive way the body composition of these patients and their ability to be weaned.
Whole body and right lung bioimpedance are more sensitive than proximal bioimpedance at predicting response to intravenous furosemide in patients with acute pulmonary oedema
Bioimpedance (Ω) analysis (BIA) provides a potential measure of body water (1). BIA may predict decompensation in systolic heart failure (2). We tested the utility of BIA in assessing the acute response to intravenous furosemide (ivF) in pulmonary oedema.
Value of multifrequency bioelectrical impedance in assessing fluid disturbances in patients undergoing major abdominal surgery
The ability of bedside multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis to monitor fluid disturbance and predict patients at risk of developing oedema after major surgery was assessed.
Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis in a Mathematical Model for Estimating Fat-free Mass in Multiple Segments in Elderly Taiwanese Males
This research applied bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and Dual-Energy X-ray AbsorptioMetry (DXA) to measure the body composition of Taiwan elderly. We developed the new mathematical estimation model for fat free mass of multiple segments.
Validity of Bioimpedance Equations to Evaluate Fat-Free Mass and Muscle Mass in Severely Malnourished Anorectic Patients
Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is a simple and rapid technique to measure body composition (BC). Validity of BIA in patients with low body mass index (BMI) remains controversial. We assessed the validity of several BIA equations to evaluate fat-free mass (FFM), fat mass (FM) and muscle mass in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) by using dual X ray absorptiometry (DXA) as reference.
The Extracellular Water Corrected for Height Predicts Technique Survival in Peritoneal Dialysis Patient
Most patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD) consume a normal Western diet that contains a large amount of salt. This causes increase in extracellular volume ("fluid overload") that has to be removed mostly with the dialysis fluid, as residual renal function (if present) cannot cope with it. In the present study, we prospectively investigated whether an increased extracellular volume (corrected for height) predicted technique survival in PD patients.
Prognostic value of cardiac troponin T elevation is independent of renal function and clinical findings in heart failure patients
The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence and prognostic value of elevated cardiac troponin (cTnT) and its association with clinical characteristics according to renal function status in patients with stable heart failure.
Estimate of Body Water Compartments and of Body Composition in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients: Comparison of Single and Multifrequency Bioimpedance Analysis
The goal of this study was to compare the adequacy of single and multifrequency bioimpedance analysis (BIA) to evaluate body water compartments, body composition, and nutritional status in maintenance hemodialysis patients.
Assessment of Body Composition by Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Women of Central India
Diabetes mellitus, an impaired blood glucose status is a major cause for loss of valuable human life. The important risk factors include: High familial aggregation, insulin resistance, lifestyle changes due to rapid urbanization and obesity specially central one. This study was carried out in diabetics (study group) & non-diabetic (control group) women of 30-50 years age.
Assessment of Nutritional status in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is considered a major public health problem in the world. Weight loss, muscle and fat mass depletion are common nutritional problems in COPD patients and are determinant factors in pulmonary function, health status, disability and mortality. In the present study, we assessed nutritional status in COPD patients.
